SaveMICity is a campaign to educate Michigan residents, decision makers, and businesses about how municipalities are funded in our state and why the current system does not work for our communities. Money that is owed our cities, villages, and townships by state statute has been redirected to plug holes in the state budget. That money should have gone to your community – where local people have a say on how it is spent on local issues.

What has your community lost?

Cuts to critical services like police and fire, delaying maintenance on water and sewer lines, and letting parks and streets fall into disrepair. These are the tough choices communities have had to make due to revenue sharing cuts. Michigan communities have had to learn to do less with less. Talk with your local elected officials to learn how revenue sharing cuts have impacted you.

A Broken System

Michigan has the most abysmal record for investing in local government. It’s worse than any state in the nation, and this directly relates to our ability to provide great services and create the places we all know are needed to be competitive in a global economy. We must reform our system to invest in what matters most: our communities.
