Dan Gilmartin to Deliver SaveMICity Messaging in Oklahoma
Daniel Gilmartin of the Michigan Municipal League will be taking the ongoing SaveMICity message national next week at a conference in Oklahoma.
Gilmartin, the League’s CEO and Executive Director, will be the keynote speaker at the Oklahoma Water & Pollution Control Conference (OWPCC) taking place at Rose State College in Oklahoma City, Oct. 8-11.
This is one of three national public speaking opportunities Gilmartin will be doing on various topics this month. He was also the keynote speaker discussing building great communities at the 2018 Vermont League of Cities & Towns annual Town Fair Conference on Oct. 4 and will be a co-speaker on “Building Strong Communities, Inside and Out” at the Engaging Local Government Leaders’ (ELGL) Milwaukee Pop Up Conference in Wisconsin on Oct. 12.
Gilmartin is an internationally known expert on the concept of placemaking and other municipal issues and has conducted presentations all over the world, including in Australia, Sweden and the Netherlands.
The Oklahoma Water & Pollution Control Conference (OWPCC) is an annual conference that caters to individuals in the water and wastewater industry. Conference attendees can pursue continuing education classes, sit in on keynote presentations and exchange knowledge and ideas with others in the industry. This event is designed to encourage networking and highlight outstanding performance, as well as offer educational opportunities.
Specifically, Gilmartin will discuss the Flint Water Crisis and how that situation is a symptom of a much larger issue in Michigan – the underfunding of Michigan’s communities for nearly two decades. His talk will directly tie into the ongoing SaveMICity initiative and the message that the way Michigan funds its communities is broken and must be fixed.
Here is the description for his session in Oklahoma:
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dan Gilmartin
Michigan Municipal League Executive Director
By now we have all read about the water problems in Flint, Michigan and seen the impact on city residents. But, have we asked ourselves, “How could this happen in one of America’s historic cities? And could it happen here?” Dan will discuss the issues that led to the catastrophe in Flint and what must be done to turn the city’s fortunes around.
