Press Conference Kicks Off Discussion of Michigan’s Flawed Municipal Finance System
The Michigan Municipal League held a press conference today to help create awareness of Michigan’s flawed municipal finance system. The press conference was moderated by the League’s Executive Director & CEO, Dan Gilmartin, and featured comments by Mayor Susan Rowe of Wayne, myself, Citizen’s Research Council Eric Lupher, Mitch Bean, Principal, Great Lakes Economic Consulting, and Shanna Draheim, senior consultant, PSC Public Sector Consultants.
The evidence is clear that Michigan has been disinvesting in their communities for some time, and Michigan is the only place in the country that was providing less revenue in 2012 than it did in 2002. We are advocating for a comprehensive look at cost containment, service delivery & structure, adequate revenues. To view the press conference and get all the details, watch the video below.
